# About this site ## What this is DC Election 2026 is an independent, unpaid, volunteer research project. It is not affiliated with the City of Dawson Creek, Elections BC, any candidate, any party or any organization. Nobody was paid to make it and it does not endorse anyone. The goal is simple: put everything that is on the public record about each candidate in one place, cite where it came from, and separate fact from inference so you can make up your own mind. ## How it was compiled - The City of Dawson Creek elections page and the redacted nomination packages for all fifteen candidates.[1] - All 143 sets of council minutes from September 2022 to August 2026, downloaded from the city's document library and text-searched for movers, seconders, recorded opposed votes, conflict declarations and attendance. - Local and regional news: Energeticcity.ca, CJDC-TV, CBC News, Northern Beat, The Broken Typewriter (Tania Finch's Substack), My Peace Region Now, and Wayback Machine copies of the Dawson Creek Mirror and Alaska Highway News. - Candidates' public campaign pages on Facebook, LinkedIn and their own websites. - Organization websites: the Chamber of Commerce, the Hospital Foundation, the South Peace Oilmen's Association, NCLGA and Northern Lights College. ## Caveats - The Dawson Creek Mirror and Alaska Highway News websites are gone. Their archives exist only to about October 2023. - Coverage of the lowest-profile candidates (Atkinson, Bice, Shields, Slowinski, Tom) is thin because their public record is thin, not because they were skipped. - Council minutes record debate as "Council discussed..." and rarely attribute remarks. Voting records come from recorded "OPPOSED" lines, which only appear when a vote is not unanimous. A councillor who is not listed as opposed voted with the majority or was absent. - Anything marked [Unverified] or [Likely] is a lead, not a finding. Claims from campaign pages are labelled as self-reported. - Vote counts (motions moved, seconded, absences) come from text searches of the minutes and may be off by a few. - The August 24 and September 21, 2026 minutes had not been published when this was compiled. ## Facts, inference and questions Each candidate page ends with a section called "What the record shows." It has three parts. **Facts** summarizes what the sources support. **Our reading** is inference: a plain-language interpretation that a reasonable person could dispute. **Questions worth asking** lists what the record does not answer. Please treat them that way. ## Photos Candidate photos come from public sources: the City of Dawson Creek council page, candidates' own campaign websites and campaign Facebook pages. Each photo is credited and linked on the candidate's page. Where no public photo could be found, a placeholder is shown. Photos remain the property of their owners and are reproduced here for voter information only. An owner who wants a photo removed or replaced can email [don.yaponchik@proton.me](mailto:don.yaponchik@proton.me). ## When the information was gathered Everything on this site was gathered between **September 21 and 23, 2026**: the council minutes were read on September 21, the news, campaign pages and nomination packages on September 21 to 23, and the site went live on September 23. That is before the council debate (September 24) and the mayoral debate (September 29). Anything a candidate said or did after September 23 is not here. This is a snapshot, not a news site. It will not be updated after that unless a correction is needed. It should be enough to know who the candidates are, what they have done, and what they say they will do. ## For search engines and AI agents Every page has a Markdown twin at the same address with .md on the end (for example [/dilworth.md](https://dawsoncreekelections2026.fyi/dilworth.md)).
